Javier Pena Ceballos

Javier qualified in Nursing Degree at University of Cantabria (Santander, Spain). During his 4-years degree he had the opportunity to complete internships in Neurology Unit, Neurosurgery Unit and Intensive Care Unit where he gained interest in neuroscience conditions. Javier performed his Final Degree Project in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and specialised nursing roles.

Javier joined the Pal Neuro Lab in February 2019, searching for patients on the hospital databases and screening them to be recruited for our studies. He works on BIOJUME, CASTLE and REGAIN across King’s College Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospital, Evelina Hospital and St George’s Hospital.

Previous experience:

Once qualified, he worked for 15 months at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals in Respiratory and General Medicine. Aiming to learn about Epilepsy and EEG, Javier moved to National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square) where he spent 2 years working in EEG-Telemetry Unit specialising in long term EEG monitoring. He gained experience looking after people with epilepsy in the pre-surgical pathway using scalp electrodes and intracranial electrodes, and other different diagnostic studies for epilepsy, psychogenic seizures and sleep disorders.
